Prince James?
Sunday, March 02, 2008
Isn't it odd that the more photos you see of Prince Harry and the older he gets, the more he looks like Diana's old lover, James Hewitt?

Big Surprises
Friday, June 29, 2007
For those of you who haven't yet listened to Trunk Cast 95, you may have missed our big news.
Monday 2nd July is Richard's 40th birthday and I wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. Richard has long since mentioned that he would like to go to Madrid as it's a part of Spain that he has never visited but would love to.
At breakfast on Wednesday I presented Richard with a selection of guidebooks for Madrid as we are spending this weekend in the Spanish capital. :0D
I decided to let Richard know about his birthday treat early so that he had plenty of time to prepare - judging by his reaction and his plans for our holiday I think this was the correct decision.
So we have literally just gotten over our trip to Paris and here we are on our way to Spain ;0)
The added bonus for us is that it is Madrid Pride this weekend and we both looking forward to seeing how the Spaniards celebrate.
I have no doubt it'll be a hundred times happier, more colourful and fun than London Pride which also takes place this weekend (be under no illusion that this is a good thing to attend if visiting London. London Pride is awful, depressing and expensive).
On a more somber note I had a feeling when Gordon Brown was sworn in as the new Prime Minister on Wednesday that there may be some unrest. I don't know why I felt this but it seems to be a global pattern these days. Sure enough this morning the BBC announced breaking news that a "potentially viable explosive device" had been found in the heart of London.
Loosely translated a suspect vehicle was found in the theatre district which contained a bomb in transit or potentially for use in that location.
This morning central London has been cordoned off and once again we have memories of July 7th.
I just hope and pray that this is a one off and that we don't have to go back to watching our every move (believe me commuting in the capital can make you paranoid enough as it is).
OK I am not going to dwell on this I have a holiday to enjoy and other things to worry about (listen to my pod cast to find out more)...
Here comes the sun...
Hasta LuegoLabels: holiday, London, Politics, Richard, UK

Out on the lash!
Thursday, May 03, 2007
It's certainly been a busy week. At least for once it's not all been taken up with work though!
To start with their was the Tony Bennett Concert on Monday. Last night I attended a leaving party for Gordon. A colleague of mine who is leaving my company after working there for 13 years. He's jacking everything in to travel around the world and I really admire his guts.
He's a nice chap and he has an oddball sense of humour which I am going to miss amongst our team.
There was a nice group of us in attendance last night and we started the evening by making the most of the warm weather by enjoying the local beer garden on the Thames. We made out way along the South Bank to Wagamama where we had a fun evening scoffing and joking around.
I could have done without getting back so late though.
With all these late nights and early morning this week I will need a holiday. Oh hang on a minute, we're away next week! ;¬D
Note for those of you waiting for this weeks Trunk Cast, I am afraid there may be a further wait as I am too busy enjoying myself!
Anyway I mus come offline and vote - someone has to get Phony Bliar out of power!Labels: London, Politics, Richard, Trunk Cast, Work

Bureaucracy Gone Mad
Friday, March 23, 2007
I know that the Labour party has well and truly fucked up this country and I know that breaking apart government run businesses was a bad move but I never realised that simple tasks could be so damn complicated to correct.
My annual season ticket (which costs me £2,500 a year), started to jam in various gates at stations. As this is my main ticket and it cost so much I decided to get a replacement.
I went to City Thameslink today and asked for a new ticket.
I thought this would be a simple process of man takes ticket, man checks my ID, man puts blank ticket in machine, man gives me shiny new ticket. Boy was I wrong!
First off the ticket man said my ticket was playing up because the gates at City Thameslink were playing up.
I stipulated I have never been through this station and that this was happening in various stations.
He then said I couldn't exchange my ticket as I'd have to do that at the station where I got my ticket.
I informed him that was online.
He didn't know what to suggest.
I stated that the ticket had proof of my ID (including my photo and signature) and that it was arranged through my employer.
He still stated I'd have to go back to the original place of purchase (a web site) and talk to them.
He then corrected himself and told me to contact my HR department. At this stage I walked away for fear of loosing my temper.
When I got back to the office I logged into the First Crapital Disconnect website to find there was no way of getting a replacement ticket online. So I called them.
Only to be told that they don't issue tickets. The TrainLine does.
Thankfully FCD gave me The TrainLines number as they do not advertise any number online.
I called them several times before getting through.
They informed me they would have to mail me a letter which I would take to any station to get issued with a new ticket.
I asked why I couldn't just do this anyway and she couldn't answer the question.
Considering the woman on the phone only asked for my photo id number and my post code I was bemused as to why this could not be done at any station counter.
So my ID was confirmed (!) and I was informed that a letter would be with me within a couple of days!
By chance I checked my email and it had actually been emailed to me not posted.
I printed and went back to the station (a different one this time).
The guy at the counter tutted, sighed and took my letter (which contained more information than he could possibly need about me and my season ticket).
He then proceeded to produce a set of forms which I had to fill in in order for him to issue my replacement (remember he has the letter of authority already!).
I started to fill them in when he then asked if "I could leave a mobile number and come back as it would take some time...".
I think the look on my face said it all. I wasn't moving for anything.
He eventually processed all the paperwork (after asking several questions which were all answered by the letter and not me), which only took a couple of minutes.
I now (eventually), have a new season ticket.
I still don't know if it's correct though as it states something my old ticket didn't. The counter guy assures me it's right.
I cannot believe so many people, so much time and effort was needed to issue me with a replacement ticket.
What the hell is wrong with this country?
I pay more than enough to go the minimal distance to work each day and when I have a problem with their flimsy tickets, I am treated like dirt.
What is wrong with these companies and this country?
(The icing on the cake - I read in the letter that I am only entitled to three replacement tickets in one year. How do they work that out?).
No doubt (when I have calmed down), I will be sending a letter to the various rail bodies with my grievances.
And why won't Blogger display the £ porperly?Labels: Politics, Work

Is Blair Bothered?
Saturday, March 17, 2007
Catherine Tate's jokes are wearing very thin but this was a very good spin on the Lauren sketches.
I can't help thinking that bLIAR got involved because he and the Labour party love such chav comedy? I reckon that the government is actually proud to have spawned a nation full of Laurens
I shouldn't complain, it was sketches like this that helped raise over £40M last night for Comic ReliefLabels: Humour, Politics

NimBy's from hell
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
What is a Nimby? It's someone who doesn't want something to happen locally to them - or Not in My Back Yard.
It would seem the UK is full of Nimby's at present.
People who don't want supermarkets (especially Tesco), but want cheap groceries.
People who don't want rail freight yards in their vicinity - but want fewer cars on the road, less carbon dioxides from traffic and a better rail service.
People who oppose airport expansion - but are happy to fly to their villa in the south of Spain as long as it only inconvieneces the Spanish locals and other people inthe UK outside of their region
People who don't want mobile phone masts within a ten mile radius of them but expect 100% coverage.
Fuck off! We all cannot have what we want and we all want different things. Maybe people should stop being so damn selfish. Progress has to take many shapes and forms and although not all progress is good, surely the majority and not the few should have the final say?
I like cheap groceries and I like buying them from a store where I can park my car. I think a freight terminal is an excellent idea to reduce road congestion and it may help improve my commute to work. As for the airports? Well we all like the benefits of flying so just get over it!
People really need to stop being so damn selfish (especially those people with their 4x4s clogging up conservation areas in Hertfordshire. The same kind of people who spend more weekends out of the country and grocery shop in Sainsburys, Waitrose or Marks and Spencers!)Labels: Politics

Quiet weekend
Sunday, January 07, 2007
After all the chaos of Christmas, New Year and then having to go back to work it's nice to be able to have a quiet weekend.
We even managed to negate the shopping from the list of activities yesterday as we had the groceries delivered!
Last night Richard and I had a lovely meal in a new restaurant on the High Street. Richard was especially happy as the venue was playing Michael Buble.
The weather has been appalling though - January is supposed to be cold and frosty but it''s still quite mild and very wet. I hope we manage to get some winter before Spring kicks in (if it kicks in!).
I think I have managed to watch all of my Christmas DVDs now and they were a very random bunch. You may recall me talking about them in old posts and Trunk Casts. I did manage to sit through the live DVD of the Mighty Boosh actually thoroughly enjoyed it. I am not sure we would have enjoyed being in the audience but it was good to watch on DVD.
Family Guy season 5 was another set I had for Christmas and it's as funny as ever. Although once again I feel Seth McFarlane ran out of jokes by the time he got to the last two episodes as they were terrible. This seems to be standard practice for FG series; I think Fox must commission too many episodes.
As you may have noticed I have had a bit of a tidy up around here. For starters there is a new graphic on the left. I am still not 100% sure I like it but I thought it was time for a bit of spring cleaning! I don't feel the need to put Trunk Guys through a major redesign this year as I really like the current format (and have received such good feedback about it). I've also been quite ruthless with my blog roll. There were a lot of blogs I no longer visit (and as I notice I had disappeared from their rolls they no longer visit me), so these were removed. As were anyone who put music and video on auto play on their sites.
My Space and You Tube have created this culture of people cramming any number of audio and video items on their pages and I find it distracting. I like to tab open a multiple number of sites. Then read through them as I am listening to iTunes. I cannot stand it when another song starts on a tab somewhere else; I have to stop my music then whizz through the tabs to find the offending site. With this in mind, any site guilty of this has since been removed.
I've also put the Blogger Member access back onto my comments. I thought it would be OK to allow anyone to enter comments but following the anonymous comment that accompanies my Taxing Problem post I thought it wise to change the method. Why? Because if people want to make such comments, they should have the courage of their convictions and own up to who they are. To be anonymous is cowardly, shallow and pathetic.
Right, I'm off for a long hot soak in the bath.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!Labels: Family Guy, Mighty Boosh, Politics, Trunk Cast, Weather

A taxing problem
Thursday, January 04, 2007
What the hell is going on in this country?
We pay our taxes and yet nothing seems to work.
The Armed Forces are in a terrible state, the NHS has no money, the police service is in chaos, immigration offices are a joke, fire crews are constantly striking and councils up and down the country seem unable to keep their heads above water.
What the fuck are the government doing with all the money they get from taxes?
I think it's time the British people stood up for themselves and ousted this sorry government.
Let's hope the rumoured departure of Tony bLIAR later this year means the end of this terrible government and a shift to a better country in the future.Labels: Politics, UK
