I am sorry but WTF is CNN thinking videoing this? It's not news and it's certainly not entertainment.
Why own so many cats and why keep them couped up in one room.
As Brandy and Jerry came from a similar situation I find this behaviour deplorable. Those poor cats should be homed with people who love them, in environments that enable them to rest and relax.
This just looks like hell. That woman should be prosecuted.Labels: Cats, You Tube

Over for another year
Saturday, June 07, 2008
Remarkably the annual trip to the vets went quite smooth this year!
Richard managed to get Brandy into the box quite quickly and I have just returned from a pretty stress free visit.
Thankfully we didn't get beardy vet (who Brandy hates) but a nice lady vet who was very gentle!
Brandy has been given her shots and a clean bill of health, which as any parent will know is always good news.
I would like to share this with you... Basically as soon as the cat carrier comes out of the cellar Brandy is off and as you will see once she's home she cannot wait to leave it either! (Excuse my hairy legs in frame!).
I have to admit I am absolutely knackered - the vets is a 15 minute walk away and I think just purely due to the fact Brandy fidgets and the box is rather large cause me to break into a real sweat. I am off for my second shower of the day, Brandy; well she's hiding under the bed!Labels: Cats, Video

Stress levels to the max
Oh no it's that annual event, the one day of the year that Richard, Brandy and I all dread. The annual check up at the v-e-t-s.
It's such a performance - we've only just got the box out of the cellar and Brandy is already freaking out. To get to this stage takes a lot of effort - if I recall last year she managed to pee on Richard as he put her in the box!
This year it's my turn and I am not looking forward to hearing her howl as we go to the vets. If she gets Beardy she'll bite him and unlike the performance at home she will be in a rush to get back into the box once at the vets!
We'll also get the silent treatment too which I hate, especially as Brandy is such a social cat.
Oh well here we go, wish us well!Labels: Cats, Richard

You know sometimes I wish I did work with Children, that way things might actually get done, people might listen and things may get actioned without running off to mommy.
Still I promised myself I wouldn't crib about this so I thought I would share possibly the funniest LOL Cat piccy I have seen in a while ;0)

ZZZZZzzzzz
Sunday, March 16, 2008
I have been desperately trying to catch up on sleep - not helped by Brandy waking us both up at the crack of dawn yesterday. At least I have managed a respectable lay in until 9 ish today - I was woke up by my baby, Miss Brandy and a bacon sandwich (no that's not a euphemism) ;)
Yesterday was very quiet though. We had the promised quiet day - in fact we watched a couple of movies. Elizabeth, The Golden Age (which was very good if not factually incorrect), and The Simpsons Movie (which was much funnier than I expected. We also played a couple of our regular DVDs in an attempt to see how our new Blu Ray player handled the picture with our new HD TV. I can honestly say we were both pleasantly surprised.
Of course with technology there is always something else isn't there and apart from me still mulling over getting an iPhone and a new Mac Book Pro, we are now wondering if it's possible to stream our ripped DVD movies from our server to the TV with an Apple TV? For now though we can use the Wii the stream movies for us (It's not elegant but it works).
I hope you have all had a listen to Trunk Cast 127 as it details my trip to Athens. I am not going to write anymore about it in the blog as so much happened it's easier to listen to the Trunk Cast.
I am also loving the new Beta version of Firefox, I never liked the old version on my Mac but the new version is incredibly quick and lot of the extensions are very useful. My only gripe with it is the lack of a keyboard shortcut for the home page...Labels: Cats, Digital Media, Music, Richard, Travel, Trunk Cast, TV, UK, Wii

Blustry Day
Saturday, March 01, 2008
It's been a very blustery couple of days - we lost the bin last night (thankfully it was only as far as the end of the garden). I don't quite understand the weather at the moment, one minute it's really dry and mild the next it's freezing cold or raining heavily. It's very unseasonal for February (especially it's now March!).
I published Trunk Cast 125 this morning and it's a particularly long show - I decided to include a full run down of my thoughts of the new Janet album Discipline. Be sure to have a listen as I have included the odd sneaky sound bite too.
We're having a quiet weekend following our trip home last weekend. I am off to Greece Monday after next so I had the time to pop into town to look for a few bits to take with me - not sure I achieved anything though having only come back with some socks and a shirt! I must be getting too picky. That or the latest fashions are just hideous. You either look like an Emo, a goth or some middle aged sad surfing type - where are all the nice clothes?
One thing that won't go out of fashion is the Apple Mac and since the announced upgrade to the Mac Book range this week I am tempted to upgrade my iBook as soon as I can (although not for a Mac Book Air as it's simply impractical as my only machine). Of course my enthusiasm will be fired up if Liz and Colin turn up this weekend - they called for some Apple related advice this morning as they are purchasing a Mac Book - I don't think I will be able to resist if I see a new one in the flesh!
I took a number of shots this week but didn't get a chance to upload them until now - this I have done and they are included in the Capture collection on Flickr (displayed below):
It's been a very busy week really. In fact there have been a number of things that I didn't even think to blog about which I could have - most notably was the horrendous situation at Blackfriars Station on Thursday evening. Passengers were not allowed down the external part of the platform as someone had jumped off the railway bridge onto one of the old bridge columns and was planning to jump - when I was there there was a team of police negotiators trying to stop him from jumping. The poor guy was still there when Richard came home and sadly I don't know the outcome.
Richard also set up a new HP Media Server and a Squeezebox - now all our music is in one place, is playable for any iTunes computer, brows-able on the web and playable from any of our internet radios/stereos etc ;0) Don't you just love technology when it works? (Just don't mention Tiscali gggrrr!)Labels: Cats, Devon, Friends, Gallery, Janet, London, Music, Photography, Plymouth, Richard, Shopping, Trunk Cast, UK

Dad's 60th
Sunday, February 24, 2008
We just arrived back from a lovely weekend at home.
It was nice to see mum in good form following her spell in hospital this week. She's not fully recovered and requires another operation but at least part one of two is out of the way.
My Dad celebrated his 60th birthday and last night we went out for a lovely (and filling), meal. Dad invited Richard's mum and her husband. We had a really nice time - in fact (with all things like this) - it went far too quickly.
This trip was an opportunity to see how the kittens are growing up, they are certainly acquiring their own characters and are quite a handful - they keep my parents entertained though ;)
Hopefully next time we go home it will be for a longer stay. I am sure it'll be soon though as dad wants to book his Clay Pigeon Shooting experience which Richard and I gave him for his birthday.
I took a fair mix of photos while home- have a browse through them here.Labels: Cats, Devon, Photography, Plymouth, Richard, UK

And relax...
Tuesday, January 01, 2008
It's been a nice festive period although as ever it all seems to be over far too quickly.
Richard and I enjoyed a nice quiet time at home where we snuggled up in front of a roaring fire, full of Christmas roast (beef not turkey) and lots of nibbles.
On Boxing Day we travelled down to Devon where we visited our friends and families. Miraculously we managed to avoid Christmas dinner until Saturday when Richard and I enjoyed a turkey roast with my parents.
Of course Richard's nephews had heaps of presents, as did my god daughter and her sisters.
My parents have extended the family by adopting two kittens from their neighbour (long story). As you can imagine having two 12 week old kittens running about the house was very entertaining.
Here I am relaxing with Jinx, the little girl.
This photo was taken after our Christmas lunch on Saturday and as you can see I was very tired! In fact I think we all enjoyed 40 winks that afternoon.
I've had a bit of a trauma rebuilding my iBook as my start up sectors became corrupt. It took most of New Years Eve to reinstall everything but 99% of it appears to be working now (I just need to iron out some kinks). Hopefully I'll have it working fully today so that I can put together a podcast.
I cannot quite believe we're in 2008 already - I still think of us being somewhere around the year 2000 but we're not! Where does the time go?
2007 was a good year but it had a number of upsets and I hope this isn't the case throughout 2008.
Thanks to all of you who sent lovely festive and New Years messages and as I have noticed Happy New Rear was very popular!
All the best and here's to a great 2008.
I'll leave you with a photo of Jinx's brother Jasper.

And relax...
Monday, December 17, 2007
It's been a lovely weekend.
I have managed to get all my presents bought and wrapped so now I can relax for the rest of the festive season (yeah right).
After getting the shopping completed I just chilled out for the remainder of the weekend.
Richard cooked a lovely lunch of ginger Ham yesterday with roasted squash, pecans and Cornish blue cheese (which I purchased at the Christmas market at the Tate Modern on Friday).
It's definitely winter now as it has become very cold. Every morning is full of frost and we have the best way of avoiding the cold. Stay in, snuggled up on the sofa in front of a roasting fire with a self basting cat (honestly Brandy gets so warm but she won't move, she simply lays in front of the open fire and rotates in the heat - she can be too hot to touch. It doesn't seem to phase her though).Labels: Cats, Christmas

No Cast this week
Thursday, July 26, 2007
I have been thinking about when I can get a show recorded this week and I am afraid there is no opportunity for me to do so.
It's been another unbearable week and I really do not have the time or the energy.
I am sure when I do record my next show there will be plenty to say.
For now I am focusing on making it through this week and heading towards the weekend. At least Richard has invited some friends over to help him belatedly celebrate his birthday.
I have by some small miracle managed to keep up my 365 days set in Flickr although this weeks photos are a little sporadic in style - I think they reflect my mood perfectly though!
Oh if any of you are on Facebook, keep an eye out for me and Brandy too as she now has her own Catbook page ;o)Labels: 365, Cats, Trunk Cast, Work

I'm a Speedy Boarder! (not)
Friday, May 11, 2007
Written on holiday as my daily journal
What is it about airports and holidays that really brings out the worst in people?
At the airport we all queued in a patient and english manner for our turn to board the plane but this calm was punctuated by an arrogant so and so who thought his speedy boarding ticket allowed him to jump the queue in front of everyone else (including other speedy boarders).
I find it bizarre that Sleazy Jet can charge upwards of £3.50 per person per flight just to put 20 people in a queue ahead of other passengers. Especially when these people treat it as Sleazy's equivalent First Class.
Let's face it, everyone has to queue and you all get as much chance as the next person at a seat (and it's not as if anyone will have to stand). And yet there is still this chaos.
This even spilled over to the plane where the two Spanish gents in question (both speedy boarders, both wanting to get on first)), had an altercation. It's not worth it!
Monday We spent the rest of the day relaxing at the apartment before heading out for dinner in the evening. The weather is crisp, warm and sunny - the exact opposite of what we left behind (yes after all this time the nice weather has finally decided to move on from the South East of England).
We soon fell into our Spanish holiday routine and found ourselves in our favourtie restaurant in the evening.
Usually our evenings are punctuated with the odd German vocal but oddly this week there appears to be more Brits here than Germans.
We wouldn't have minded except for the family from hell who decided to sit behind us. With four adults and equal number of children you would expect there to be order but as seems to be the case at home, parents seem completely unable to control their children.
So our peace was broken by hearing this horrible Essex shrill from the mother asking the waiter for E-g-g AND C-h-i-p-s for each of her darling children.
We found this rather amusing, especially as here father and the waiter were trying to explain what the Spanish was (and any English equivalent).
Of course the darling children got their food and ate it with gusto - not! It was too hot, it was too runny, it was anything but edible! And what did the adults in the party do about it? Nothing? They let them sit there, complain, whinge and kick up a fuss. Richard and I commented to one another that when we were that age we ate it when it was served or went without...
Tuesday Today was much more relaxed affair, we got to do what we enjoy on these holidays; lay in till late, have a relaxing (and filling) breakfast on the balcony, shop, lunch, a couple hours on the beach, a shag or two, siesta and then out for dinner :) (Not necessarily in that order).
The beach was quite quiet yesterday but this didn't matter as it meant Rich and I could snooze as much as we wanted in the sun - I think it must have been around 30 yesterday so it was hot enough to bronze out lilly white skin. I think I have managed to catch some sun but I don't like to go too mad... (Until the bevy of German prunes wandering around).
Mickey came with us to the beach too - he had his usually holiday snap taken as well as the swarm of ladybirds that appeared to be occupying the beach.
We both bought some new clothes, something I try to do on every trip - if I don't I end up having to look like all the other clones at home. My only concern is fitting it all into an already packed suitcase!
Lasts nights meal was at a different restaurant as our favourite closes on Tuesday but at least there wasn't enough room for the family from hell to accompany us!
Wednesday Tonight we plan to have the cameras at the ready - for two nights we have been passed by two particularly hot young Spanish guys jogging. Clothed on Monday and topless last night. Believe me, they are well worth the odd digital snap! Hopefully we will see them again tonight!
Surprisingly we didn't spend any time on the beach today, instead we decided to use our time walking along the headland, taking in the sights. This was a great opportunity to use the new camcorder although I am conscious that carrying a video camera really does make you look like a tourist.
Still it was worth the walk especially as there were a couple of Spanish hotties larking about on the rocks (see Trunk Cast 91).
All in all though it was a very calm and relaxing day which culminated in our usual siesta and trip to the beach front restaurant for dinner. Of course we have to fit some sangria into at least one trip so tonight was the night. I don't know if it's the recipe, the restaurant or the location but you cannot beat sangria made by the Spanish in Spain.
Unfortunately the two hot Spanish joggers were not spotted on the prom - only one of them jogging solo. I did capture him on my Olympus (he's in the video for Trunk Cast 91), nor was he topless I am afraid but you'll still get the general idea!
It's been a hot break (in more ways than one), and the weather seems to be getting hotter. It was a balmy 28 yesterday and the report for Thursday is hotter still.
Thursday I can see why birds migrate and take the routes they do - we have had a lot of swifts flying overhead since we have been here and they really do have a fantastic life. They may spend it all on the wing but they do tend to be in the right place at the right time... In a couple of weeks they'll be flying over our house in England - isn't it amazing how they navigate?
So it's Thursday and we need to think about getting the apartment tided up for when we leave. It's nice having access to such a place but that's the difference from a hotel - you have to make you own bed and tidy your own mess! (Not that we are at all messy!).
We had a text from Liz this morning explaining that Brandy has become very needy since we have been away. I think this is true testament to how much she is missing Jerry. I am sure we'll be in no end of trouble when we return tonight!
I had some great news from home today as Ness and Liz have worked Liz crazy to acquire tickets for Prince's forthcoming concerts in London. Thanks to their tanacity, Vanessa and I will be attending two nights in August :)
So I am going to make the most of the warm weather, the birds chirping and the sea view... When you read this we will be home. The photo's should be uploaded to Flickr and Trunk Cast (Video) 91 will be available for download.
Enjoy viewing them, at least as much as we have had taking them.Labels: 365, Cats, Friends, holiday, Pic-a-Day, Prince, Weather

Holiday Eve
Sunday, May 06, 2007
It's the day before our holiday so today is the day to dig out everything to pack... and of course my last day to blog before I go.
Do I have much to talk ab out since my last entry? Not really but I have found some cool things online I'd like to share before I go.
1) Magnetosphere. I do tend to think that the Visualiser function in iTunes is underused and forgotten. Unlike the Windows Media Player version which is shoved in your face whenever you play anything. The iTunes visualiser has a number of neat tricks up it's sleeve and I just discovered Magnetosphere which is a rather fab plugin. Check out the link to see a grab from the animation. It's worth a download.
2) Facebook I know there are hundreds of social web sites and groups out there and it's hard to keep up. This is probably why I am only just discovering Facebook. There is a large following in my company so I decided to join up and take a look. I have since created a Trunk Guy Group which you are all welcome to join. Why join Facebook? Well it's neat, tidy, you can navigate and read things with ease and you are not bombarded with garish background images, forced to listen to crap camp or rock music and video. Or in other words this is everything My Space isn't - which in my book is a good thing!
3) BrandyCam We received our new video camera yesterday, a Hard Disc Drive Sony Handy Cam. So what was there to test it on? Brandy of course! It's a great model and the touchscreen makes it very intuitive and easy to use... Check out my upload to You Tube (with commentary from Brandy).
4) Trunk Cast 90 went live yesterday - enjoy!
That's it for now - Adios! I'll see you on the flip side of our holiday. (Yes I could blog whilst abroad but it'll cost a fortune, therefore it can wait til we get back).Labels: 365, Cats, Digital Media, holiday, Music, Pic-a-Day, Trunk Cast, You Tube

It's another lovely Saturday and I have spent some time in the garden taking photo's of our lovely flowers.
My favourite has to be the deep purple tulips I purchase at last years Chelsea Flower Show. They contrast wonderfully with the white bulbs.
Of course not wanting to be outdone, our other little flower is in fine bloom today!

I found some lovely photographs of Jerry and Brandy on a CD. They range mainly from around 2003, which must be when we first got them.
They both look so young and Jerry looks as bright and as busy tailed as he ever did.
I didn't have to create this new wallpaper as I had already done so. Event with th effect I love Jerry's facial expression. He was such a rascal.

Poor Excuses
Sunday, March 18, 2007
This afternoon we paid a visit to our local RSPCA Rescue Center, the same center that we acquired Brandy and Jerry.
We like to pay a routine visit as we take food and donations up there whilst also spending some time with the cats.
We were looking around at the occupants and although there are no replacements for Jerry, there are a few candidates that could keep Brandy and us company.
We're not looking for a new cat, I still feel it is too soon and I still haven't quite come to grasp the concept that Jerry is no longer with us.
What annoys me about centers like the one we visited is the reasons that some of the animals are there. Some are ill treated (one poor in-mate was just 1 kg when found) whilst others are abandoned for selfish reasons. One old family cat had been put into the center as the children would tickle his tummy and he didn't like it - obviously the children could not be taught not to do it, the reaction was to get rid of the cat!
Another poor soul was being re-homed because his owners were moving to China the next day! How one earth do people let situations like this happen? Surely if you're making such a monumental move you have to consider your pets early on?
I think we may pay the center a few more visits in the coming weeks just to see how the current occupants are doing. For now we're happy to shower all our love and attention on Brandy (and let's face it, she isn't complaining!).Labels: Cats

Feline Forum
Monday, March 12, 2007
It seems that my blog is turning into a bit of a cat forum!
I spoke to my mum today as she took the family cat Steamy to the vet. For some time now he has been wandering around the house at all hours crying. It's got so bad he was doing it last weekend when I was home, as he was drinking from his water bowl!
I thought it may have something to do with his age (he's 16) and I wasn't too far off. Unfortunately wasn't prepared for the early diagnosis.
The vet reckons Steamy may have dementia. He had suffer a fit a while ago (something that also affect my parents old cat Tigger) and the vet reckons this has caused some brain damage. Apparently he's perfectly alright except that he has not idea what time of day it is or where he is. (Before you ask; no, I have no idea how the vet worked this out!)
As you can understand my parents are pretty upset with the news.
They have taken some blood to test which will rule out issues with his kidneys etc. Once this is confirmed the vet will decide on a course of action. Apparently there is treatment but I am not sure what you can do to help a cat through a mental illness.
I feel really sorry for mum and dad and of course Steamy. Especially as they lost Tigger last year.
Following on from our loss of Jerry it doesn't seem to be a great year for family cats so far :(
Brandy is currently driving Richard and I nuts as she's not sleeping. Instead spending the evenings crying (possibly looking for Jerry). It's understandable that she may be grieving but it's keeping us up at all hours and our patience is running a little thin. We will persevere but I don't know for how much longer. Sounds like I may be making a call to our vet sometime soon!
Update: My parents have had the blood results back and Steamy is actual well apart from this propose dementia. The vet has prescribed a month on low anti-depressants to see if there is any improvement.Labels: Cats

Weekend
Sunday, March 11, 2007
It's been a good weekend so far, apart from Brandy waking us each day at 6:30 for food! She can't help it, I know she's adjusting to not having Jerry around but I wish I could get back to sleep.
It's currently 8:03 on Sunday and I have been making updates to the site since I fed her at 6:30!
As well as Brandy's crying I have to cope with Monkey trying to steal my cuppa!
We had a nice day yesterday as we met up with Stephen and Robin for lunch. It was great to catch up with them.
The weather has been very kind to us this weekend and I hope it continues as we are out with friends later today.Labels: Cats, Weather

He was fit, he was well, he was Jerry.
To say we are distraught would be an understatement.

Reactions
Tuesday, January 30, 2007
Getting suitcases out always causes a reaction with the cats. Unfortunately Jerry gets really sad and insular as this video will prove.
Brandy on the other hand doesn't twig as quickly but she will be causing Richard grief later when she realises I am not coming home tonight!
Of course I will miss them and I will miss my baby the most.
I am already counting down the minutes to my flight home on Friday ;)Labels: Cats, Richard

Cold and frosty?
Saturday, January 27, 2007
No it's no actually; it's chilly but it's nothing like the frost and snow we have had this week. Anyway I digress...
I am making the most of my weekend at home as the forthcoming week will see me away from our abode for a week. Sadly not all of it will be on holiday or with my baby.
I am in Amsterdam from Tuesday as I have a conference to attend for work, I wouldn't mind but it's my birthday on Thursday and I'd rather spend it at home!
I'm back next Friday and then Richard and I are off to Berlin for a long weekend. I can't wait but I have to be honest I have not focused any (or rather little) attention on what I want to do when I get there. Mainly because work and the Amsterdam trip have taken up all my time, energy and focus.
In fact I had to purchase a digital camera for the conference today and bought an Olympus Miju. I have long since trusted these cameras and cannot fault their quality or functionality.
I captured this video with it this morning just to see how clear it was and I am very impressed.
All this of course means that I won't be around to blog or cast for a while. Of course listeners to my Trunk cast will know this already as I mentioned it in show 75.
I would blog from my European destinations but as I am not clear how much 3 would charge I don't think I'll bother. I am sure I can catch up on events when I return.
If I could it would give me the opportunity to use the fab new Geo Tag facility on Flickr ;)
Do you have a web cam? If so, pop over to the Trunk Cast page, follow the right hand menu about half way down and you'll see a photo box. This is a great little utility weher you can share your photo's/mug shots with me! Why not check it out and capture that moment!Labels: Cats, holiday, Richard, Trunk Cast

Bloody winter
Thursday, December 21, 2006
Ok so I am writing this on the train. The weather is terrible and it's having an affect on public transport.Christmas is also having an affect on people. I have seen a number of shifty characters around. A cabby was chasing a guy down fleet street and the trains are full of loud drunks. It must be Christmas! At least after tomorrow it'll be me, my baby and the cats and then we can switch off and ignore the rest of humanity! That just about sums up my Christmas spirit! I am looking forward to it honest. Look out for two special Trunk Casts ;) Labels: Cats, Christmas, Richard, Weather, Winter

Happy Christmas Mrs President

I find the Bush administration Christmas videos laughable - I am still to work out why they bother with such ludicrous seasonal treats.
Are the American public so gullible that they find these things interesting? I am fairly sure they are not that gullible!
As this report suggests; it's rather interesting that this years White House Christmas message is signed of by the First Lady. Is this because the dogs and the cat look ten times more intelligent then George W?
I have been out shopping this morning and eventually I have manged to find myself a decent pair of boots that will look go at work and won't cause me to break my neck whilst walking back and from the station.
I have found it a challenge to find anything of interest for my works Christmas party on Wednesday. I have a wardrobe full of clothes so I am sure I can find something there.
I do despair that the clothes shops all contain such drab items. Not everyone wants to wear a luminous shirt at this time of year!
At least I am safe in the knowledge all my cards are written and have been posted this morning. At least that's one Christmas job out of the way.
I just need to find time to wrap the presents.
But first I'm off to play our new game; find the Brandy cat! :)
