Going Ape Sh*t!
Monday, April 21, 2008
What a crazy day!
Our factory in Liverpool and the Head Office where I work in the City of London was today targeted by Greenpeace protesters.
They were dressed as orangutans and managed to scale to the first floor balcony of 100 VE (formerly Unilever House), jumping around like apes, playing jungle noises and basically being a nuisance!
They are protesting about our use of Palm Oil in our products and they fact that it is destroying the Apes natural habitat. Of course Greenpeace want to be partly impartial and have said Unilever itself is not just to blame.
The company issued a statement today informing the markets that we head a coalition whose role it is, to find alternative solutions for the use of Palm Oil. It's a mammoth task as lots of products that we all make and consume contain Palm Oil.
I only took the photo below from the railway bridge on my way home (you can see the anti-Dove protest hoardings on the road junction). There are plenty of other photos online as the events have been well covered by the media. Follow this link to find out what the BBC are reporting.
The orangutans were still there when I left and admit they won't go until we stop using Palm Oil - I think they may be there a long time!Labels: London, My World, UK, Work
