Shuffled

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Following my recently received Qype Ninja pack, I am very happy to have received another iPod Shuffle.

This time not from Qype but from one of the brand teams I work with. They sent it to me by way of a thank you for all the work I have done for them, making them one of the most successful brands internally (which also means externally as we principally teach global marketers how to roll out successful activations).

Shuffled

The eagle eyed of you will notice the brand associated and will also note it's another (Product) RED iPod shuffle* which means more money has gone to AIDS charities.

I am very pleased to have received this iPod as it means so much to be recognised for all the work I do. Whatever the gesture I think it's great to be acknowledged, especially when this comes all the way from Rome.

Thanks again Sylvia and Paola ;0)

*So I have a new iPod Shuffle and what will I do with it? I will use it for the gym and give Richard my Qype shuffle ;0)

Diversif*cking!

Saturday, October 25, 2008

We were very lucky to spend Thursday evening in the hilarious company of Dawn and Jennifer.

French and Saunders are currently undertaking their farewell tour here in the UK and we had been lucky enough to get tickets for one of the final London shows.

I as not sure what to expect (we had seen Dawn on stage in other productions but never French and Saunders together live). We needn't have been disappointed. The whole show was a complete riot.

There was a good mix of ad hoc banter mixed with a generous selection of sketches from their 30 years together - some had been updated and some (like the original Absolutely Fabulous sketch) were left intact.

Dawn and Jennifer are institutions in the UK and it was good to see them take stock of this and to lampoon their successes (including Ab Fab and the Vicar of Dibley).

I am not sure what triggered my hysteria but during the "Prickely Pear Farm" sketch I was uncontrollable - I was crying so much I could barely open my eyes.

Other favourites sketches have to include the new version of "Whatever happened to Baby Dawn", "Dirty Old Men" (with their Brokeback Moment!) and the school girls talking about sex.

During the first part of the show Dawn went into the audience to confiscate their chocolate - she was armed with a bucket and a camera which was projected on the back of the stage. It was all going so well until she picked on an old lady in the front row who only handed over a couple chocolates. Dawn and her had a scuffle and as Dawn found the box of chocolate she was hiding, the old dear unwrapped some of the chocolates and put them in her mouth. Without hesitation Dawn reached into her mouth to pull out the chocolate and pulled the woman's dentures out! It was so funny...

Thankfully one of the earlier shows has been recorded and is due for release on DVD before Christmas.

It will be a real shame not to see them tour together again - I am sure they won't stop working or writing though...

Oh and as for the rumours re the return of Ab Fab - you'd have to read the tour book to hear the update from Jennifer and Joanna Lumley ;0)

Evolver

I am and have always been a fan of John Legend and I love his new album Evolver. This album is a departure from his traditional sound but to be honest it's not too great a leap. As the album title suggests he does evolve through his music and even though this album has touches of Andre 3000 and Pharrell Williams - you wouldn't notice that much.

Increasingly it's refreshing that someone with such talent can stay fresh and not fall foul of the trends (Will Young being another such artist).

John Legend is a bit of a handsome devil too (see the photo album from the album sleeve).

iTunes UK is giving the opportunity to acquire tickets for his forthcoming tour... I wonder if I can convince Richard to go. ;))

I know who you are voting for!

Saturday, October 18, 2008

You know I can't help but notice that if all my news about the USA Election was gathered from the (gay) blogs I read, I would not know about any other candidate.

Don't get me wrong, I know why all you gay bloggers (and every one else) are voting for Obama but it does strike me odd that there is seldom any comment (let alone a positive one) about ole' man McCain.

It certainly looks like Obama has the rainbow vote all sewn up, if nothing else.

Oh and please don't try to explain any of this to me - I simply don't care, it has no immediate effect on my life - this is purely my observation (you know who you are).

It is refreshing to hear about these political gaffs in another country - and boy do they seem to be large gaffs!

That said the best political observations can be found on Twitter courtesy of Joshia Barlett, Claudia Jean, Danny Concannon and Bruno Gianelli ;0)

(Hmmm maybe watching the complete West Wing in two months has had a lasting affect on my political opinion!)

Pano-naro ohh ohh ohh!

Loving the Panoramic features of Pano for the iPhone

My current favourite iPhone app (how fickle am I!) is Pano - a great tool which enables you to stitch four live photos on your iPhone together to create a great panoramic shot ;0)

Me J!

Sunday, October 12, 2008

I am loving RJD for the iPhone - I saw it when in public beat but now it's available as a one scene (single) app or a full scene (album) app in the iTunes App Store.

In a nut shell RJDJ is a random music generator which creates soundtracks based on whatever is picked up via your iPhone mic - it has to be tried to be believed.

I highly recommend this - next time you are bored with your music collection why not open up this fab app and make your own soundtrack!

I must like it - I currently am top of the rating panel in iTunes!

Chim chim cher-oo!

Sunday, October 05, 2008

Well it's chucking it down with rain, the lawn mower is packed away this can only mean Richard and I are planning for what comes after Autumn - namely Winter!

The overcoats are out of the cupboard and today we are awaiting the arrival of our local Dick van Dyke. With the price of gas and electricity so high we have decided to put our open fire to more use and to ensure they are operating efficiently we have the chimney sweep coming today.

Hopefully it'll be painful and clean - the last time the chimney was cleaned (by Richard), the house was full of soot! Here's hoping...

Left wing, Right wing

Saturday, October 04, 2008

On Thursday evening we attended the BBC Radio 2 recording of Clive Andersons Chat Room.
It's currently being broadcast on Radio 2 and can be heard online through the link.

It's a topical news show and was quite open and honest. With the guest list of Julian Clary, Rhona Cameron (gay comedians), Tony Parsons (hack and author) and Michael White (Guardian Political Editor) it definitely was a lively debate.

Rhona and Julian were very funny (as was Clive Anderson) but the political spin was a bit much - I have never been a fan of Tony Parsons and seeing him in the flesh, that up close and personal really doesn't mean I will like him any more.

Clive Anderson managed to tie it all together pretty well although he does talk very quickly.

Follow the link, the final 28 minutes show is entertaining but there is a great deal of the 2 hours recorded taken out - for obvious reasons!

I cannot complain as it's a great (free) way to spend an evening in London. Thanks Auntie Beeb!

IndiGO!

My copy of 21 Nights arrived yesterday and I am very impressed.

The photo book is amazing and there are great photos of Prince and the crew in London, The 02, The Dorchester, on the streets and in Prague. Obviously most of the shots are set up but it's a fantastic record and far better than any tour programme.

As for the live album Indigo Nights which was recorded at one of the many aftershow parties - what can I say..? It's like he never left. It truly brings back all the joy and excitement from last summer and it's a fantastic book to have on the coffee table. This album manages to capture all the joy and the fun of attending a Prince aftershow - it's a fantastic recording and long over due.

It certainly is funky and truly worth purchasing (I managed to get my pre ordered copy for less than half price thanks to Amazon ;0) )

Looks like it's gonna be a funky weekend and we need to generate some heat as autumn is definitely with us ;0)
