Natures Rush

Sunday, April 27, 2008

When Richard and I got up this morning it was as lovely a day as it was yesterday. This prompted Richard to mow the lawn and tidy the garden, I spent the time polishing and sorting the house.

As soon as we had both finished there was an awful clap of thunder and it turned very grey.

It's amazing how nature catches on to such environmental things. When Richard finished the garden there were a pair of Robins, the odd tit and a blackbird bobbing around the garden catching all the fresh worms and insects that had been disturbed.

With the clap of thunder the activity seemed to speed up quite considerably - it's just started to rain so I think that spells the end of our nature show and our plans to go out!

Midnight Flight - Threadless, Best T-shirts EverSo the weathers lovely and what am I doing - I am indoors designing new t shirts for threadless!

To be fair though I have been up since the crack, done all the washing and been into town to have a browse around the shops...

Jump! - Threadless, Best T-shirts EverThe garden looks like a jungle and although it's hot enough to mow the lawn it's still too wet to do so safely.

I am still deciding whether to join the Threadless 12 club - maybe if one of my newest designs (which are tweaks of old wallpapers I have created), are submitted it may help me make up my mind.

Please - click on the thumbnails to see the full t's and vote for me!

JULP!

Friday, April 25, 2008

I decided to stop by the barbers on the way home and get my hair cut - I've had to sit there and suffer some teenage Jumped Up Little Prick who thinks he's king of everything.

  • He was ranting about how driving lessons cost too much and that he won't need the 20 lessons recommended.
  • That Vista was a much better operating system then anything else available.
  • That Macs were no good for anything other than what comes pre installed on them (and then the novelty value wears off).
  • That some football team* would do much better if they did this or that.
  • That he could provide anyone in the barbers with a licensed full copy of Vista
  • for a fiver.

I think I behaved impeccably, I sat there, let the barber cut my hair, tried not to wince at his comments or react in any way - I did however wish that the other barber would nick his ear with his scissors!

Good god kids are full of themselves these days are they? I blame the parents. ;0)

(*enter any generic name of a group of grown men who get paid to kick a bit of cow hide around a bit of grass for a living here)

Going Ape Sh*t!

Monday, April 21, 2008

What a crazy day!

Our factory in Liverpool and the Head Office where I work in the City of London was today targeted by Greenpeace protesters.

Photo from BBC News

They were dressed as orangutans and managed to scale to the first floor balcony of 100 VE (formerly Unilever House), jumping around like apes, playing jungle noises and basically being a nuisance!

They are protesting about our use of Palm Oil in our products and they fact that it is destroying the Apes natural habitat. Of course Greenpeace want to be partly impartial and have said Unilever itself is not just to blame.

The company issued a statement today informing the markets that we head a coalition whose role it is, to find alternative solutions for the use of Palm Oil. It's a mammoth task as lots of products that we all make and consume contain Palm Oil.

I only took the photo below from the railway bridge on my way home (you can see the anti-Dove protest hoardings on the road junction). There are plenty of other photos online as the events have been well covered by the media. Follow this link to find out what the BBC are reporting.

Monkey madness

The orangutans were still there when I left and admit they won't go until we stop using Palm Oil - I think they may be there a long time!

To the Tower!

Sunday, April 20, 2008

Off to work...

I was rather ashamed when my eight year old god daughter visited the Tower of London. I have lived in London longer and still hadn't visited.

After a few false starts Richard and I spent the day having a look around the Royal Palace.

I wasn't 100% sure what to expect but I was blown away with the contents of the Tower. I can finally say I have seen the Crown Jewels now too!

Of all the photographs I took today (including Baskys' latest work below), my favourite has to be the photo above of the Beefeater going off to work.

This is a must visit for anyone who comes to the Capital. With our recent acquisition of Royal Palace membership we'll have a few more of the Royal Palaces on our list of days trips this year.

Burning a Hole

Little Panda Escape - Threadless, Best T-shirts EverOK here's the deal. I got my annual bonus this week and after the tax man got his claws on it it was significantly reduced. That said it's an amount not to be sniffed at.

Now I know I have been blogging and pod casting about wanting to get a new Mac book Pro but I think I am going to be sensible and save the money for the time being. The state of the UK economy is following that of the USA and the global down turn so I think it would be wise to do so.

I do however feel I should treat myself in some way.

I know there is lots of speculation about the 3G iPhone coming in June which is fine but at the end of the day my old contract expires then and I'll be up for a change so I don't see this as much of a treat.

I am however thinking of giving my wardrobe a monthly refresh by way of a Threadless 12 account. As most of you will know by the photos of me online, I already own a number of great Threadless T's and was thinking of purchasing some more.

It says "blog!" (127)I am currently undecided with the designs etc and this is where the 12 Club comes in. If I stump up a wad of cash (it's not much it works out about £9 a T, I get an exclusively designed T every month for the next year and a $30 voucher to buy more!

I think this is a pretty good investment as it means I constantly update my wardrobe with at least one new item every month and it saves me having to go out and shop for such things (and it means I don't end up buying something that everyone else is wearing which to me seems to be the case here in the UK).

Oh decisions, decisions...

(Mental note to self: I must get around to creating more designs for submission too!)

And all good things they say... never last

Monday, April 14, 2008

Call it apathy, call it lack of enthusiasm, call it realisation, call it time - and so I will after 131 shows this is it.

I have just uploaded my final Trunk Cast

Update: Thanks to all of your for your lovely messages - it really is encouraging to see how much my show means to you all. Please listen to Trunk Cast 131 to find out why this is the last Trunk Cast.

As I have responded to you in some of my mails this is the last scheduled show - Trunk Cast may return in another guise in the future so keep it in your subscription list (I said may).

Thanks again x

Stretching ones legs

Sunday, April 13, 2008

Finally today we had the opportunity to get out and enjoy some nice weather, some fresh air and just relax.

"...and he said mint sauce! He he!"

We took a drive up to Wimpole and had a lovely walk around the estate. We went for a wander over to the farm to see the newly born spring lambs before heading back to enjoy a picnic.

It wasn't that warm and sadly the weather turned on the way back but it was still lovely to get out and enjoy some fresh air ;0)

I took a few random shots and am particularly happy with the lamb shot above (especially as one of them appears to be smiling) and another great shot of this squirrel. If I had planned to take these shots it would either of never worked or taken hours to achieve!

Click on the photos to see the rest of this small set.

Have you seen my nuts?

TG on Track!

Trunkguy Wii Mii

I don't race as Trunkguy but I thought it'd be cool to create a separate driver. Sadly I cannot use all the tracks and goodies I have unlocked with this additional driver so I will continue to drive Marion Kart Wii as myself.

I have had a few friend codes already - don't forget to send me yours!

Mii? 3780 9141 2943

Oh and yes I said I wouldn't apologize if I didn't blog or pod cast so this isn't really an apology simply an explanation: contrary to popular belief I have not spent the weekend on the Wii, the weather has actually been quite nice. Dan paid us a visit yesterday and today we're off out for a picnic. There will be updates when I feel good and ready ;0)

Avoid the Rainbow Road

Thursday, April 10, 2008

My copy of Mario Kart Wii arrived a day earlier and it's brilliant.

Some of the new courses are devilishly difficult but the old familiar ones are still there. The Rainbow Road is very difficult though.

Got a Wii? Get the game send me your friend code and I'll see you on the race track!

Update My Mario Kart Friend Code is 3780 9141 2943 - feel free to add me and I'll see you online

Touched Up!

Saturday, April 05, 2008

I decided to update the Trunkguy Touch/iPhone home screen icon today.

I felt the old one was a little cumbersome as it was a bit difficult to read the text.

As I have updated the show graphic for Trunk Cast (has anyone noticed?), I thought I'd use this new element.

Save TrunkGuy.com to your iPhone/Touch home screen to see the new icon in full affect ;0)

BBBig Mistake?

As you know I have been in the web and design business for some years now and have had a lot of experience in usability and design online.

I have to say that I usually find myself defending the BBC as they are a world leader in news coverage and web production but I really have to balk at the new BBC News web site.

The BBC always get it right and yet this latest incarnation of the trusted popular news site is truly awful.

I have read the editors comments and justification as to why they decided to update the site but I don't believe any of it to be honest. I agree it's good to refresh a web site every once in a while (ahem). But this new incarnation is awful. There's too much white space, the fonts look horrible and worst of all the content has suffered.

You used to see three or four stories in a category, now you only see the one. I could understand if the BBC needed to justify the sites existence through click through as this would force you to open more pages.

Truly this cannot be the reason for such an over-site?

The site now looks like its missing content, you have to think before you can access any information and the gaps make it look like something is missing.

Coming on Auntie - get your act together!

(I also must say I find it odd that the BBC has asked for nay feedback...)

Get it Now!

I came across the link in the iTunes Store yesterday for "Chuck".

For those who don't know what this is, it's a fab new comedy series from the USA which starts broadcast on Virgin1 on Monday 7th April.

iTunes have the pilot for download and until the broadcast of the first episode on Virgin1 it's abso0lutely free.

I was a bit wary about downloading the pilot of a show I have never heard of but now I have watched it I will be watching the series on Virgin1.

It's witty, clever, sometimes dramatic and funny. I think it's a great show and look forward to seeing the rest - follow the link to acquire the free download before it's too late!

Finally good news

Friday, April 04, 2008

It's been a very odd and sometimes horrible week. Especially in work, first with the company news and then with the shock news that my 45 year old boos who was our Project Head died suddenly on Wednesday. Find out more in Trunk Cast 130

Today was a brighter day starting with our planned office trip to the Bridewell Theatre for the lunchtime performance of Shakespeares "Tempest". It was another great performance from the production company there.

I think got confirmation that my ore ordered copy of Mario Kart Wii is good to go ;) I cannot wait to get my hands on it. See you on the race tracks online.

Perks of the Job

Tuesday, April 01, 2008

Thankfully Richard reminded me that the Red Arrows accompanied by the Eurofighters would be flying down the Thames today to mark the 90th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force.

The bridges in the city were packed with spectators - thanks to our wonderful new building we got a birds eye view.
