Janet and Larry

Monday, March 31, 2008

I have to say a big thank you to Cram for letting me know about the Larry King Live video podcast.

The very first edition is a full 45 minute interview with Janet Jackson. It was great to see a full interview in good quality rather than some grainy crappy short clip in You Tube.

Now if only the rest of today had been so positive!

Bursting!

Sunday, March 30, 2008

We've had a lovely day today. Stephen and Robin came down today and it was fabulous to catch up with them. Stephen has been travelling a great deal this year so this was the first opportunity for us all to hook up.

The weather has taken a real turn too which means we got to enjoy a walk in the park.

I think we may have pushed our luck as we left the first restaurant to take a walk across the park to The Waffle House where we had dessert! I can barely move, I have eaten so much. Stephen and Robin were already aching due to a recent Snow Boarding training session. I think the food tipped the balance ;)

I cannot grumble though as it's been a lovely day. I hope the weather picks up so we can enjoy many more like this one.

8 Years Old Already!

Saturday, March 29, 2008

On Friday I enjoyed a lovely evening with friends. Sarah and Steve paid a visit to London as they had brought my god daughter, Laura, up to see the Tutankhamen Exhibition in the 02. It is a birthday treat for Laura and her sister Rachel as Laura is 8 this weekend.

We met up at the Tower of London before heading off for a nice meal and a catch up.

As you can see they all look very relaxed and happy (although you don't see Steve in these pics and that's not to say he doesn't look relaxed either!).

Laura, Sarah and Rachel

Trunk Cast 129 is also live - have a listen to find out more.

Kindergarten

You know sometimes I wish I did work with Children, that way things might actually get done, people might listen and things may get actioned without running off to mommy.

Still I promised myself I wouldn't crib about this so I thought I would share possibly the funniest LOL Cat piccy I have seen in a while ;0)

Thankfully I have Cheezburger to help me get through my day.

Happy Easter!

Sunday, March 23, 2008

Happy Easter!Even though it's been forecast I still cannot believe the appalling weather we have been experiencing during the Easter break. Yesterday was a day of contrasts, heavy snow fall, torrential hail and blue sky, all fitted into the weather cycle like it was perfectly natural. Today we wake up to this... it's still snowing and as the wind has died down it is starting to settle. This isn't as much snow as received by the north of the country but it's enough, It's March! Next week the clocks change to British Summer Time - what's going on?

The break has been relaxing for now. We took Good Friday as a day to relax, this meant I did some clearing out in the house and Richard did some baking.

Yesterday Liz and Colin came to ours for afternoon tea and we had a very civilized time. It was lovely to spend the day with them. We got to hear all about their honeymoon in St Petersburg and I also got to help them set up a few things on their brand new Mac Book.

Putting their new Mac Book next to my iBook does prove how the technology has moved on (although I feel my older iBook is actually lighter (even though it's bigger)). That said the screen and the speed of the new Mac Book was fantastic. You can test these things in store but until you use them for real things, I don't think you can truly get a feel for them.

I like the Mac Book but to be honest for me the screen is a bit too small. I have the 14" iBook and I like the screen size, I think the new widescreen models look a bit narrow when down to 13". I still am keeping with my decision to upgrade to a 15" Mac Book pro.

The wallpaper I created on Friday was picked up by the owner of Sabet.tv, it's a social network for artists so I took the invitation to join. I am really pleased nat the feed back I have received already regarding my work.
Anyway it's been a restful holiday so far. We both felt last night that it was Sunday. Therefore I guess this means we now start another weekend ;0)

Moorland Runner

Thursday, March 20, 2008

Every night I walk home I pass the Cotswold Camping Shop and the latest advertising hoarding has really got my attention!

I can't think why...

Bottle

It won't get me running but it does have me longing for the wide open spaces of Dartmoor and Devon (amongst other things!).

ZZZZZzzzzz

Sunday, March 16, 2008

I have been desperately trying to catch up on sleep - not helped by Brandy waking us both up at the crack of dawn yesterday. At least I have managed a respectable lay in until 9 ish today - I was woke up by my baby, Miss Brandy and a bacon sandwich (no that's not a euphemism) ;)

Yesterday was very quiet though. We had the promised quiet day - in fact we watched a couple of movies. Elizabeth, The Golden Age (which was very good if not factually incorrect), and The Athens, Greece March 2008Simpsons Movie (which was much funnier than I expected. We also played a couple of our regular DVDs in an attempt to see how our new Blu Ray player handled the picture with our new HD TV. I can honestly say we were both pleasantly surprised.

Of course with technology there is always something else isn't there and apart from me still mulling over getting an iPhone and a new Mac Book Pro, we are now wondering if it's possible to stream our ripped DVD movies from our server to the TV with an Apple TV? For now though we can use the Wii the stream movies for us (It's not elegant but it works).

I hope you have all had a listen to Trunk Cast 127 as it details my trip to Athens. I am not going to write anymore about it in the blog as so much happened it's easier to listen to the Trunk Cast.

I am also loving the new Beta version of Firefox, I never liked the old version on my Mac but the new version is incredibly quick and lot of the extensions are very useful. My only gripe with it is the lack of a keyboard shortcut for the home page...

Too busy to think of a title?

Saturday, March 08, 2008

It's been an interesting day. We popped down to Brent Cross today as I wanted to get some things for my conference trip to Greece on Monday.

I got myself some shirts and the odd pair of trews. I must confess to man handling a Mac Book Air but to be honest I prefer the Pro. I did get some new trainers too but that was during another shopping trip in St Albans. Our big purchase today was our new 32" LCD TV. Richard has been pestering me for one since Christmas and to be honest we got such a good set at an excellent price, it was too good an opportunity to miss.

Think we'll have a quiet day tomorrow. I am staring down the eyes of a chaotic week... I need to pack etc (and we all know how long it takes a gay man to do that!). Not sure I am going to get a Trunk Cast together either, it's yet another things on the list. I'll see what I can do ...

At least I can spend some time at the airport watching BBC iPlayer on my iPod Touch. Thanks to the fab beta and unrestricted access through the Cloud network I can watch whatevers on iPlayer whenever I want. Don't you just love technology (just avoid mentioning the SDK launch delay to me!).

Update: I have uploaded Trunk Cast 126, just a brief update but a show nonetheless.

What a day!

Tuesday, March 04, 2008

What a day! I cannot believe the chaos caused this morning by First Crapital Disconnect!

There was signal failure at Cricklewood which led to all the fast services being cancelled or disrupted. I get the slow serviced anyway as it guarantees me a seat. Of course by the time we were a couple of stations in some loud mouth took it on himself to stop other passengers getting on due to the train being crowded. Fair enough, gallant I guess but there was room for one or two extra people. What happened next defies logic... A passenger trying to get on the train does so only to be pushed off by the passenger om the train. He gets pulled off by the passenger outside a a fight breaks out on the platform - what a performance! I cannot believe people act like this in this day and age.

It just proves that high ticket prices to put people off using trains at peak times does not work - especially when there are such network problems. The irony is two stops later most of the "fat train" crowd got off to join the underground (including Mr Angry).

I was enough to get into the office only marginally later than normal. Richard wasn't so fortunate. When he got to the station he was turned away as the station was closed due to over crowding. This is a favourite trick in central London but something we were yet to witness this far out. He got into the office just before mid day.

What a joke!

Prince James?

Sunday, March 02, 2008

Isn't it odd that the more photos you see of Prince Harry and the older he gets, the more he looks like Diana's old lover, James Hewitt?

And angels sang

Thanks to Firefawkes for bringing this fantastic image of Ben Cohen to my attention.

Ben Cohen, hot English rugby star replicates the infamous Athena pose of man and baby - and boy he looks hot! That's one lucky little girl to have such a smoking hot daddy.

Saturday, March 01, 2008

It's been a while since I updated my friends page and to be honest I have not had the time to put together a new collage. Well guess what - I have now!

I hope all of you featured are not too disturbed with the choice of photo I have picked. In some cases the photo I used was the only one available with both of you in (where appropriate) and as for the rest, I simply picked the pic I liked ;0)

Now I wonder if i should run some competition for regular blog readers/trunk cast listeners to identify them all? I wonder... ;0)

Blustry Day

It's been a very blustery couple of days - we lost the bin last night (thankfully it was only as far as the end of the garden). I don't quite understand the weather at the moment, one minute it's really dry and mild the next it's freezing cold or raining heavily. It's very unseasonal for February (especially it's now March!).

I published Trunk Cast 125 this morning and it's a particularly long show - I decided to include a full run down of my thoughts of the new Janet album Discipline. Be sure to have a listen as I have included the odd sneaky sound bite too.

We're having a quiet weekend following our trip home last weekend. I am off to Greece Monday after next so I had the time to pop into town to look for a few bits to take with me - not sure I achieved anything though having only come back with some socks and a shirt! I must be getting too picky. That or the latest fashions are just hideous. You either look like an Emo, a goth or some middle aged sad surfing type - where are all the nice clothes?

One thing that won't go out of fashion is the Apple Mac and since the announced upgrade to the Mac Book range this week I am tempted to upgrade my iBook as soon as I can (although not for a Mac Book Air as it's simply impractical as my only machine). Of course my enthusiasm will be fired up if Liz and Colin turn up this weekend - they called for some Apple related advice this morning as they are purchasing a Mac Book - I don't think I will be able to resist if I see a new one in the flesh!

I took a number of shots this week but didn't get a chance to upload them until now - this I have done and they are included in the Capture collection on Flickr (displayed below):

It's been a very busy week really. In fact there have been a number of things that I didn't even think to blog about which I could have - most notably was the horrendous situation at Blackfriars Station on Thursday evening. Passengers were not allowed down the external part of the platform as someone had jumped off the railway bridge onto one of the old bridge columns and was planning to jump - when I was there there was a team of police negotiators trying to stop him from jumping. The poor guy was still there when Richard came home and sadly I don't know the outcome.

Richard also set up a new HP Media Server and a Squeezebox - now all our music is in one place, is playable for any iTunes computer, brows-able on the web and playable from any of our internet radios/stereos etc ;0) Don't you just love technology when it works? (Just don't mention Tiscali gggrrr!)
