Chilling by the River Yare

Sunday, September 30, 2007

Me at BlicklingWe have had a lovely break in Norfolk, chilling out, having walks in the country and taking in some of the best of England's heritage.

During our holiday we visited the Queens home at Sandringham, we took the local train into Norwich where we explored the Norman Castle and the Cathedral. We had a couple of National Trust days too where we visited Blickling Hall and Felbrigg. We also visited a number of churches in the local area as Norfolk has some of the oldest churches in England. There were fine examples of Saxon churches in Susted and Bessingham.

Our cottage was lovely too - ideally situated right on the banks of the River Yare in the lovely village of Reedham. The cottage was very comfortable and wonderfully well equipped. It also gave us the opportunity to take in the view of the Broads, the victorian swing bridge and of course the bevvy of ducks and swans that visited each day for food.

Of course our week has ended far too abruptly and we find ourselves back at home. Still I am not going to end on a low note as we really did have a lovely week away - and without leaving the country.

Of course there are lots of photos online - especially as I had the ideal opportunity to try out my new camera and I have to say I am very impressed with it.

Trunk Cast 105 contains a slideshow of highlights from our holiday. Why not download it to watch or better yet subscribe?

Pop by the Norfolk set on Flickr to see my efforts.

iAm really impressed!

Thursday, September 20, 2007

My new babyWoo Hoo! I have my iPod Touch - it's not the one that I ordered from Apple but one that Richard spotted whilst in London today ;o)

My new baby is syncing as we speak - expect a full review soon!

----- Update -----

Well I have had a couple hours last night and this morning to try out my new 16gb iPod Touch and I an very impressed.

Ignore the negative reviews. The screen is bright and sharp delivery a very crisp image.

The iTunes store works perfectly (in the UK). I would even say downloads are faster.

All the interface flourishes are very nice but of course they all serve a purpose.

More later...

Importance of Lunch

Wednesday, September 19, 2007

A group of us went to the Bridewell theatre in the city for lunch to see their production of The Importance of Being Earnest.

Of all of Oscar Wildes plays this has to be my favourite. The theatre was very busy and it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves.

I am constantly amazed how the company manage to stage such plays in 45 minutes!

I highly recommend a touch of drama in your lunch break to help break up your day!

Stalk off!

Oh my god I think I have a stalker!

Every morning this guy gets on the train and actively seeks me out. I thought I'd test the theory by moving seats and wherever I sit in the carriage, regardless of how many free seats there are, he always sits next to me! I don't think I am being paranoid because if the trains full he also stands near me?

I think I need to find a diversionary tactic!

Tired but happy

Sunday, September 16, 2007

We've had a lovely trip home to Devon but already we're driving back.

I had a very nice surprise on Friday as Richard gave me a new camera. I have been coveting this particular one for ages and now I have it :)

I took the Lumix TZ3 with me when we visited Dartmoor yesterday and I took a stroll around The Barbican and Plymouth Hoe. The photos look stunning on the Mac. They really are very sharp and the 10x optical zoom is very effective. It's quite a robust 'compact' but that's not a problem as the build quality is excellent, the screen very large and the lens is very crisp.

This is a collection of my shots of the Barbican, more photos are available within my new Plymouth collection.

For once we visited Plymouth and it didn't rain! It was so nice to get out and about and get some proper fresh air.

Another week over

Friday, September 14, 2007

And another weekend begins. Thank god there are weekends to look forward to. Without them at present I think I'd be lost.

It won't be a particularly restful this weekend though as we're heading home. It's always nice to get there but the journey bores me senseless.

I am not worried though as we're away at the end of the month.

I may get my hands on my iPod Touch early too. Reports are circulating today confirming they have been purchased in some Apple stores and pre orders are being fulfilled already. Looks like I'd better get on with ripping my favourite DVDs!

iTouchy ;o)

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

Ok so it's been a long day - again!

I have been on training - again!

I've just ordered my iPod Touch again - yippee!

I cannot wait to get my hands on it. I am really looking forward to using it to watch TV and movies during my commute, as well as the web surfing, the portable photo album and of course carry my music library.

I don't think the 16 gb model is an issue (people have been complaining it's too small) - I used to have a 20 gb iPod and had more problems finding what I wanted to listen to. 16 gb is much bigger than my current Nano and it gives me so much more flexibility.

I am really looking forward to receiving it ;o)

Expect a full review very soon!

Tea with a view

Sunday, September 09, 2007

I know it's a very British thing to take tea and this afternoon Richard and I took tea a very interesting place.

The combination of Richard's love of flying and the local flying school at Panshanger, we dropped by to see what was going on.

Unlike most flying schools in the UK, you don't have to be a member to enjoy the benefits of the club. For us this was simply the opportunity to drop buy, have a spot of lunch and watch amateur pilots taking lessons and those lucky enough to have their own planes, take to the sky. It was a warm sunny day and this seemed like a wonderfully relaxing way to enjoy it.

Cool as Ice!

Saturday, September 08, 2007

It's been a very long and tiring week. As I said last week I spent it away on the next part of my training with work.

I did find the training very interesting but I have to say it's been pretty packed throughout the week. It doesn't help that I have a follow up training session next week (but thankfully only for one day this time).

It was really great to see the group again as they are such a diverse and friendly bunch. Sadly one of the Russian girls was victim to company restructure so has left and another wonderful young lady, Anke is no longer attending as she leaves the company in October (best of luck Anke).

We had a few new members from Spain, Ireland and Germany so there was s further cultural mix this time.

I think some of the highlights from this week had to be when we got lost on our evening ramble (well it was a talking point), seeing one of the Russian girls talking to someone in Moscow whilst on the ramble and experiencing the level of feedback we gain from focus groups.

I didn't take many photographs this time (other people certainly did!) but the ones I did take I added to my set on Flickr.

I don't know if it's got something to do with being with a group of people who are predominately younger than me but I have just spent the afternoon wandering around St Albans trying to find some nice clothes for work and for the autumn. I cannot find anything. I see people with stacks of bags laden down with shopping and yet I cannot find anything I like. All the shirts in the shops look cheap and nasty (even the expensive ones) and no one does any decent shoes.

I look at the clothes on sale at the moment and wonder who would actually wear any one it. In one shop they had a perfectly nice tweed coat but it had a hoody attached to it - yes you could remove it but why did it need the hoody in the first place?

I had a hiccup with this weeks Trunk Cast so I have decided to put together a small edited show which lets you into The Secret World of Brandy. The original show included much of what I have mentioned above so I don't think I have missed to much by publishing the edit.

Quiet Sunday

Sunday, September 02, 2007

Today started very early as Richard had a flight to catch - he's in Barcelona for a couple of days. This isn't so bad as I am off on a course tomorrow for the week. I do miss him though - even though it's just one day the house feels empty without him.

I tried to get back to sleep after he had gone but in the end I just got up.

Just as well as I have finished 90% of what I wanted to achieve already!

I have been sorting out discs and stuff and found the CD of photo's Carol & Dave gave us when they visited recently. I know I uploaded the Big Event photos but hadn't realised I had yet to upload the photos from our June day in London. Carol & Dave came down for the Falklands Commemoration Ceremony and the day before we met up and had a lovely day in town.

Well (better late then never), here are the photos:
