Rest in Peace Jerry Cat
Sunday, February 25, 2007
After suffering a stroke our proud little boy was taken away from us suddenly this afternoon.
He was fit, he was well, he was Jerry.
To say we are distraught would be an understatement.
Rest in peace little man.
Lots of love and hugs always, Daddy, Daddy and Brandy xxXxx Hear all about our loss and the effect it is having on all of us in Trunk Cast 80 and watch this video footage of Jerry at his best.Labels: Cats

On the road again
It doesn't seem like five minutes ago that we were all at Thetford Forest enjoying the Pet Shop Boys concert and now they have announced new UK dates.
I am not sure what, is anything, they are promoting but this set of dates seem to be at much smaller venues.
After chatting to Stephen last night we're definitely going to try and get some tickets for one of the gigs in May.Labels: Pet Shop Boys

Fallen Angel
Saturday, February 24, 2007
I spotted a competition online to design some wallpaper with a preselected set of vector images. I have used some of these images and added my own photography from Berlin as well as other shots I have in my collection.
The result is my entry (and a new wallpaper) titled "The Fallen Angel of Berlin".
What do you think?
Update: I created a few more illustrative wallpapers this afternoon (yes this afternoon). All of which are available to view on Flickr and use as desktop wallpaper.Labels: Digital Media, Wallpaper

After Hours
Friday, February 23, 2007
It is not often that I socialise outside of work, especially not straight after work. Today was an exception.
I went out with a few members of the conference team and we had a really pleasant evening. Not sure cocktails are my thing but I do like Pimms and Champagne :)
I also got really good recognition from one of my 'managers' today which spread much further than expected as another global lead really like my work.
Days like this are worth getting out of bed for, and it's not just the champagne talking!Labels: Work

Today I received fantastic thank you gift from one of our Global Vice Presidents for a project I worked on quite recently.
I got a fantastic Gift Voucher to redeem at The Refinery. My only dilemma is working out what I am going to have, a facial? Full body massage? Hot stone treatment?
I feel the need to book a day off...

NimBy's from hell
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
What is a Nimby? It's someone who doesn't want something to happen locally to them - or Not in My Back Yard.
It would seem the UK is full of Nimby's at present.
People who don't want supermarkets (especially Tesco), but want cheap groceries.
People who don't want rail freight yards in their vicinity - but want fewer cars on the road, less carbon dioxides from traffic and a better rail service.
People who oppose airport expansion - but are happy to fly to their villa in the south of Spain as long as it only inconvieneces the Spanish locals and other people inthe UK outside of their region
People who don't want mobile phone masts within a ten mile radius of them but expect 100% coverage.
Fuck off! We all cannot have what we want and we all want different things. Maybe people should stop being so damn selfish. Progress has to take many shapes and forms and although not all progress is good, surely the majority and not the few should have the final say?
I like cheap groceries and I like buying them from a store where I can park my car. I think a freight terminal is an excellent idea to reduce road congestion and it may help improve my commute to work. As for the airports? Well we all like the benefits of flying so just get over it!
People really need to stop being so damn selfish (especially those people with their 4x4s clogging up conservation areas in Hertfordshire. The same kind of people who spend more weekends out of the country and grocery shop in Sainsburys, Waitrose or Marks and Spencers!)Labels: Politics

First Crapital Disconnect
I really don't understand my rail company.Yesterday morning all trains on platform one were moved due to technical issues. Last night my train made an emergency stop as a passing fast train caused a door to open and the emergency brakes kicked in. Thankfully we were already slowing on our approach to St Albans. This morning a guy with a megaphone announced announcements would be made on a megaphone due to technical issues with the tannoy and displays! Classic. :)

Culture and Booze
Sunday, February 18, 2007
We had a great day yesterday in London and ironically most of it was spent in the same area in which Richard and I work!
As mentioned in this weeks Trunk Cast, Richard and I had booked tickets to see the Gilbert and George Exhibition at the Tate Modern.
This really is a major exhibition and a huge body of work (both in volume and stature). As mentioned previously we have seen a number of collections in the past but nothing on this scale.
I was amazed and delighted by the charcoal sculptures at the very beginning of this retrospective and very interested to see how Gilbert and Georges styles and stories progress through the years.
They have been very prolific too as there was only one noticeable gap since 1972. They have managed a large body of work every year.
Of course people criticise them and make comments and jokes about such works as Piss, Spunk, Tears and Shit, but you really have to see these works in their respective collections as the context and the story of each set comes through.
We saw the Dirty Words and Pictures exhibition a couple years ago at the Serpentine Gallery. It was a good collection and a wonderful exhibit but seeing it at the TM with the two pieces that weren't part of the Serpentine exhibition actually ties the commentary together.
In fact one of my favourite works was Alcoholic. I found it very dramatic and very moving. I also enjoyed Headache which seemed like a major departure for them as it consists of bright purples and crimson.
Of course I cannot find examples of either of these works on line - do you have copies?
Richard kindly bought me a few goodies from the exhibition; the Rubik Cube (which I will not use but have to have) - let's face it their art is perfect for such a medium. See photo above... Richard also bought me the catalogue and a signed exhibition poster which will be framed and hung as soon as I get it home (as we were spending more time in town I dropped that latter items off at my desk for safety and convenience!).
I was very moved by the new body of work such as Bombings and Terror which were inspired by the July 7th Bombings here in London. These works were very direct and very moody. Not like the penultimate collection which featured works such as Hooligan and Ginko pictures which includes Was Jesus a Heterosexual?.
I think I am a Gilbert and George purist and although I like the most recent works, the work generated around 2003 just seemed to be too digital and moved their focus away from their art (this was the first time Gilbert and George used digital photography techniques instead of their more traditional methods).
I have never seen the Tate Modern so busy either - I think the Carsten Hooler Unilever Exhibition may have something to do with it though as there were a lot of families milling about queueing to go down the Test Site slides!
Once we left the TM Richard and I made out way to St Paul's where we had a lovely late afternoon lunch. It was a nice meal and provided us with a chilled departure following the exhibition.
From here we made our way to the National Portrait Gallery where I finally got to see the Pet Shop Boys Portraits Exhibition. It was exactly what I expected it to be but interesting nonetheless. Of course it helped that when we arrived the video was playing Bruce Webers excellent video to Being Boring.
After the NPG we made our way into Soho where we met up with Lee and some friends. We had a drink or two in the Duke of Wellington before heading over to Bar Code for the spoils of Happy Hour. Thankfully Richard and I decided to quit while we were ahead (and still vertical) before heading up to Regents Street to do a bit of shopping.
All in all a very packed day and a great day at that.
If you get the opportunity to see the Gilbert and George Exhibition I highly recommend it; even if you do not consider yourself a fan.
The exhibition has prompted me to create a new wallpaper...Labels: Art, London, Richard, Trunk Cast, Wallpaper

Berlin Wall(paper)
Sunday, February 11, 2007
I have received a lot of really nice comments about the photographs I took whilst in Berlin. As you have been so kind I thought I would edit some of them for distribution as wall paper.
I have selected four favourite shots and placed them in my Wallpaper set on Flickr in 1024 x 768 resolution.
I hope you have as much enjoyment looking at them as I did exploring Berlin to take them.Labels: holiday, Wallpaper

Bloody Vandals
I cannot believe vandals have defaced Gaudis lizard sculpture at Parc Guell in Barcelona.
This is such a magnificant place and an excellent statue - how could they? It is so mindless and pointless.
I hope they get strung up for thier actions.
Is nothing sacred in this world any more? Are youths really that bored?Labels: News

OK so today we had David Beckham, Tony Blair and George W Bush in the office.
Just an average day at the office for me.
