Nice but dirty!
Friday, December 29, 2006
So far it's been a nice, but hectic break at home. We've managed to see everyone we planned too with the exception of a few friends.I think today will be our last roast dinner for a while as we are both so bloated after eating so much during use festive season. Unfortunately we decided to pop into Plymouth city centre to see the new shopping complex and we were shocked by what greeted us. Although all this money has been ploughed into the city it's a shame that the locals don't appreciate it. The public just seemed rude and the streets and shops were an absolute mess. The city has been offered an olive branch of sorts to move forward but sadly none of the locals seem too bothered or worried about thier home. We are both disappointed that this once vibrant sea side city could end up in such a mess. Maybe the local rag needs to stop ripping apart the few good things about the city and try to inspire people to get off their asses and clean it up! Labels: Christmas, Devon, Plymouth

Rain? In Devon?
Wednesday, December 27, 2006
Of course! Typically a couple hours after arriving home we see the first rain we have seen in weeks! Its been lovely to see my folks and to pay my friends and my god daughter a visit. I think it was wise to only visit for a short period as we both look really tired. Hopefully the weather will buck up tomorrow and Richard and I will be prepared for our next Christmas dinner. Cue Chris Rea

Well we're driving home for Christmas, well post Christmas.
I did plan to take a photo of the drive but the flash is too distracting.
We've had a lovely quiet time, chilling out, eating too much and snoozing by the coal fire. As you can see this is something Jerry capitalised on.
We're in Devon for a couple days before returning home for New Years. I think after the running around visiting our folks, we'll need a rest before we go back to work!
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Thanks for all very kind messages.Labels: Christmas, Devon, Plymouth

Strictly Fixed
Strictly Come Dancing is over for another year and although it was a very close final I have this horrible feeling it was rigged.
Both Mark Ramprakash and Matt Dawson danced brilliantly but I do believe that Matt did a much better job.
Karen and Mark relied on showy pieces which won favour with the audience. I wouldn't mind if they danced well but during the Viennese Waltz Mark was stooped over and in the show dance he stopped mid way as he nearly dropped Karen. Did no one else see this?
I am very happy that Karen was part of the winning duo but I was rather taken aback when the cameras were lingering on Mr Ramprakash longer than normal and his attitude seemed to change when he thought he was off camera.
Matt and Lilia weren't perfect but they did an excellent set of routines and I was backing them all the way.
I guess Matt cannot complain though, a couple years ago he was part of the English Rugby World Cup winning squad and he also won Celebrity Master Chef earlier this year.
Still it was a pleasure to see him shake his thing on a Saturday evening. This years Strictly has been the best yet.Labels: Strictly Come Dancing

What's the time?
Saturday, December 23, 2006
Well it must be nearly Christmas, why else would Richard get up at 3 am to go shopping?
At least we're all set now. No more worrying about the queues, the angry people, the shin cracking mothers with push chairs or the toe crunching old women with shopping trollies!
I think it's time to light the fire, crank up the choir and open the bubbly :)

I really am - as a kid I loved playing with these guys - now they finally get (what looks like), an amazing big screen appearance.

Bloody winter
Ok so I am writing this on the train. The weather is terrible and it's having an affect on public transport.Christmas is also having an affect on people. I have seen a number of shifty characters around. A cabby was chasing a guy down fleet street and the trains are full of loud drunks. It must be Christmas! At least after tomorrow it'll be me, my baby and the cats and then we can switch off and ignore the rest of humanity! That just about sums up my Christmas spirit! I am looking forward to it honest. Look out for two special Trunk Casts ;) Labels: Cats, Christmas, Richard, Weather, Winter

Who what where?!
Tuesday, December 19, 2006
I honestly don't know where I am at the moment - this week really has been hell.
You'd think for the week before Christmas there would be some let up but unfortunately not, it just gets busier and busier.
At least the lovely guys over at Lone Star Verve sent me this rather fetching graphic to celebrate me winning the Best British Blog Award :)
I'm glad it's Christmas this weekend and I am glad that Richard and I are on the ball. We only have the final last minute fresh items to purchase and the plan is to get up early, go down to the local market, get what we need and get home as soon as possible. Whilst avoiding the chaos!
Of course I have spent some time (and not much I hasten to add); setting up my new mobile phone. I have now got the blog, email and Flickr software working so have no excuse for not being in touch! Pop over to Flickr to see the latest uploads; all of which were taken with my new camera phone :) God Willing from the album "Fundamental" by Pet Shop Boys

New Mobile Phone
Sunday, December 17, 2006
OK here's the deal; normally I would look to change my phone when my old contract is due and after I have thoroughly researched a handset.
Yesterday was not the case.
I was simply browsing around and found myself on the Three web site - somewhere I would not normally go.
Any way a combination of having good reports about 3 from my friend Ben, glowing reports of the handset from Lee and the addition of a great deal with lots of web extras swung the deal.
Before I knew it I was in my local 3 Store signing up for a X Series contract!
Looks like I am putting my 6280 on Ebay! But at least I can keep an eye on the sale with the built in Ebay feature on my N73 :)
In fact if you try to reach me on Skype or MSN now; you should get my whenever my phone is on as these are two features which are constantly active on my new handset :)
The photo above (which isn't great as it's of a flat panel monitor), is an example of the 3.4 mega pixel camera built into the phone.
I just need to get my Flickr uploader and blog software set up and I'm good to go :)
Technology eh!

Prince and Santa
Saturday, December 16, 2006
I can only imagine what Prince will put together for next years Superbowl Half Time show - rest assured though it'll be the best thing to ever happen to the Superbowl.
By the way Santa; I'm not fussy - one of each in any colour would be great :) Thanks!

Exhibit A: Bored of waiting for the train home?
Solution? Take lots of photos with your mobile phone and stitch together when you get in!
NB: I promise when I have had some rest and woken up properly at the weekend; I will blog about something decent - honest!

It's an enormous festive erection!
Sunday, December 10, 2006
Yes it's that time of year! The Christmas tree is now taking up a substantial area of floor space in our living room!
In fact I forgot just how big our tree was; I also forgot it takes four sets of lights to illuminate it!
This photo doesn't display the size or spectacle of our tree; in fact I have never been happy with any photos I have taken of our tree! I have however tried to get some interesting captures.
I have created a Christmas 2006 set at Flickr to illustrate all of these photos of the tree and a few additional ones too :)

Happy Christmas Mrs President
Saturday, December 09, 2006
I find the Bush administration Christmas videos laughable - I am still to work out why they bother with such ludicrous seasonal treats.
Are the American public so gullible that they find these things interesting? I am fairly sure they are not that gullible!
As this report suggests; it's rather interesting that this years White House Christmas message is signed of by the First Lady. Is this because the dogs and the cat look ten times more intelligent then George W?
I have been out shopping this morning and eventually I have manged to find myself a decent pair of boots that will look go at work and won't cause me to break my neck whilst walking back and from the station.
I have found it a challenge to find anything of interest for my works Christmas party on Wednesday. I have a wardrobe full of clothes so I am sure I can find something there.
I do despair that the clothes shops all contain such drab items. Not everyone wants to wear a luminous shirt at this time of year!
At least I am safe in the knowledge all my cards are written and have been posted this morning. At least that's one Christmas job out of the way.
I just need to find time to wrap the presents.
But first I'm off to play our new game; find the Brandy cat! :)

I won!!!!
Friday, December 08, 2006
I just noticed I have won the award for Best GLBT United Kingdom Blog at this years Lone Star Verve Blog Awards :)
I am very pleased. Thanks to all of you who nominated and voted for me. It is very much appreciated :)
Of course this makes me a very happy bunny.
What a lovely early Christmas present! Thanks.
Of course now I will loose sleep worrying about keeping up the momentum!
LOL
I'm only joking, (he says grabbing his writing pad to make notes for future shows!)
I'd like to congratulate all the other winners; there is a real mix of blog styles within the list and it's great to see such variety and diversity. Melodie (Opus 47 No 3) from the album "Back to Mine: Pet Shop Boys: Neil Tennant" by Emil Gilels

Friday Night is Music Night...
Tuesday, December 05, 2006
Except when it's Tuesday!
What am I going on about? Well tonight (Tuesday), Richard and I went to the Mermaid Theatre here in the City of London to see BBC Radio 2 record it's longest running programme.
The show aims to play something for everyone and they certianly managed that. Although I do think that some aging queen may have been behind tonights set as it included music from The Sound of Music, Singing in the Rain, Chess and Fiddler on the Roof. My favourite piece had to be the soundttrack to Carry on Doctor!. Excellent stuff!
As ever the BBC Symphony was amazing and the guests vocalists were very good.
Why was it recorde tonight? Well they were preparing for the new schduled time slot in January. That means the show we have just seen will not air until the 26th January 2007. Now that's forward planning!

Can you kill someone with a cake?
Monday, December 04, 2006
As mentioned we went to see Mitchell and Webb perform at the local theatre last night and we had a whale of a time.
A lot of the sketches came from the TV or radio show but there was new material too.
I honestly don't know how they remember all their lines, the show moves at such a pace.
I was especially pleased when they presented the second scene of Big Talk and the Mitchell came out amongst the auditorium to find questions from the audience for the boffins. Completely unscripted and hilarious at the same time.
It's odd going to somewhere so close to home - having lived here for so long it's funny to think we have never been to the local theatre. It was great to be able to simply walk home afterwards without worrying about trains or driving.
And remember... that's Numberwang!Labels: Mitchell and Webb

Insomnia
Sunday, December 03, 2006
It's no good; it's 4:41 am and I cannot sleep :(
I should be enjoying a good nights sleep but I can't. My shoulder is killing me and I have felt uncomfortable most of the night. I'm quite alert too which is quite worrying for this time of day!
I give up trying to force myself to sleep and have gotten up.
It's blowing a gale outside and aside from everything else the noise of debris blowing down the road and the guards in our chimneys knocking has got me up.
I should make sure I catch up on some sleep tonight though as we're going to Mitchell and Webb. I'm really looking forward to it. They are a couple of irreverent comedians and I am sure the stage show will be just as funny as their TV and Radio series.

Happy December 1st!
Friday, December 01, 2006
OK so it's only December the first and as you may know every year I create a Christmas card for the site. Well this years was put together a couple weeks ago and I uploaded it today.
And why not? It'll only be displayed until the 26th so I might as well circulate it now!
I decided not to go for anything animated or flashy this year but instead to put together some stylised, in the same design as Trunk Guy. I think I have succeeded.
Of course, take a look at the home page to see it in it's correct spot!
And to be honest I am not too early - I arrived home today to find three Christmas cards on the door mat - I guess I need to think about writing my cards now!
I would like to mention World AIDS Day but to be honest I am dissappointed that this global event seems to have been bypassed. I could not find a single outlet anywhere near where I live or in the City of London to purchase my red ribbon. At the very least this is a way to donate, and in a society where AIDS is on the increase I am surprised. Maybe next year the charity can get their PR together and they'll receieve more of the donations they need.Labels: Christmas
